A decade on and build work finally begins on new marina in straits of Gibraltar
Build works for new superyacht marina expected to take two years
It’s taken over a decade, but it seems plans for Gran Marina del Estrecho, in the straits of Gibraltar, look set to finally become a reality with the contract now signed to enable ground works to begin. Gran Marina del Estrecho will be one of the most modern marinas in the Mediterranean and is set to become a key base for large superyachts.
Financing for the €50m project has now been secured with building works expected to take 24 months. The marina will have 80 berths from 30-100m in length and two moorings for cruise ships, in two different docks. It will have more than 11,000m² of commercial premises as well as sites for high-end hotels, with terraces with excellent views over the Bay of Algeciras and Gibraltar. It will create 40 jobs directly and 300 indirectly.
Juan Ignacio Jiménez-Casquet is project managing the build on behalf of La Línea City Port, which also created Alcaidesa Marina next door.
