Istria's new port is now open

Last week, the Rabac Port Authority officially inaugurated the most organized port in the Rabac Port Authority’s jurisdiction, Trget, with 295 refurbished berths worth a total of HRK 10.5 million.

As announced at the project’s official opening ceremony, a total of HRK 8.4 million was contributed by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure, with the county of Istria contributing another HRK 2.1 million.

The removal of the existing berths and cleaning of the bay were necessitated after an accident involving the Liberian ship Fidelity in 2018, during which oil poured out of the Brisca port and contaminated the whole Rasa Bay and Trget port. The county of Istria spent HRK 195,000, and the municipality of Rasa Municipality spent HRK 92,000 on this clean-up project.

Ms. Antonela Mohorovic Kozuh, director of Rabac Port Authority, remembered the event and expressed relief that today’s situation had concluded successfully.

“We were able to organize and deal with the damage with the support of the Civil Protection Authority and a significant amount of work. We now have a new port in Trget as a result of all of this. We were once a tiny, unsightly, and abandoned port, but today we have 295 berths that have been completely renovated and upgraded. Trget port, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Rabac Port Authority, is today the best-organized port in the region, and this is something we can all be proud of ” Mohorovic Kozuh’s statement was underlined.

Moor will be constructed in Trget the following year, and plans are being drawn to renovate the Sv. Marina port, according to her.
