The current new or used yacht has been in the possession of the current yacht owner for an average of 10 years, about 70% of these used boats were needed, 30% bought new. In recent years, the proportion of used boats and yachts has increased slightly. At boat changes, the previous boats were sold at about 90% or given in payment. Older boat owners currently have on average the third or fourth used boat, younger boat owners already relatively early the second or third used boat. During the years, an estimated 20-30,000 used boats were “put on the market”, of which 85% were sold and 15% given in payment. When choosing the successor boats and their years of construction in boat changes interesting differences in buying behavior and were found: While in the years before 2008, still a considerable interest in relatively new motor and sailboats was observed, the interest has shifted significantly towards older boats.
