Spain installs the country's first Aqua superPower charging station

Spain installs its first Aqua superPower charging station. MDL’s Sant Carles Marina in Catalonia is the first in Spain to install Aqua superPower’s marine fast charger for charging electric boats.

The fast charger was formally transformed on last week in the presence of the Secretary of Territory and Mobility and President of Ports de la Generalitat, the Mayor of La Ràpita, the Ports de la Generalitat’s managing director, the general manager of Sant Carles Marina, and other dignitaries and stakeholders.

“We have always strived to be the first in Spain to join the Aqua superPower network in order to become a top destination for electric boats and the first charging center along with the Catalan coast marine fast charging corridor,” said Nicolás González, general manager of Sant Carles Marina.

Sant Carles Marina is one of Catalonia’s most forward-thinking port facilities, having been the first to install Tesla electric car chargers in Spain. The marina is located at the mouth of the River Ebro, just across from the town of La Ràpita and at one end of the Parc Natural del Delta de l’Ebre. The port is close to La Ràpita port in Alfacs Bay and has 1,150 boat moorings from 8m-33m.

“The installation of the new Aqua superPower fast charger is part of the Catalan government’s planned decarbonisation line and contributes to port adaptation to climate change as one of the fundamental pillars of the Horizon 2030 Ports Plan,” said Isidre Gavin, president of Ports de la Generalitat.

According to Alex Bamberg, CEO of Aqua superPower, the installation is the result of the company’s recent collaboration with the Catalan Association of Tourist Marinas (ACPET). “We are thrilled to be collaborating with MDL Sant Carles Marina, the first in Spain and Catalonia to join Aqua’s marine fast-charging network,” he added. “This also fits very nicely with our collaboration with MDL Marinas Group.”

“Access to charging that delivers features like charge station visibility and gives a consistent ‘plug & charge’ experience is critical for boat owners if they are to create the confidence to convert to electric boats.” We are excited to introduce clean electric boating to Sant Carles Marina and to help the Port de la Rapita’s larger green goals.”

Aqua superPower promises to be the first firm to design and implement a worldwide marine rapid charging network to assist marinas, boat builders, and boat owners in the long-term transition to decarbonisation and marine conservation. Electric boat users will be able to connect to the network via the Aqua superPower secure app or an RFID card.

The firm is expanding its global network of maritime fast chargers, with recent installations on the Cote d’Azur, the Italian Riviera, Venice, and Plymouth in the United Kingdom. According to Aqua superPower, another 150 chargers are planned for next year, with significant deployment expansion to follow.
