Spain is planning a new 400 moorings marina
The regional authorities of Murcia, in southeast Spain, are preparing to construct a new marina in Portmán, on the country’s Mediterranean shoreline. According to top regional government officials, the facility would have a berthing capacity of around 400 vessels under the proposed configuration.
According to the local news website Europapress.es,
The new marina “would respond to the intensifying needs of the population of the region of Murcia,” says the region’s Minister of Development and Infrastructure, José Ramón Díez de Revenga.
The regional authorities have requested the Spanish government to help Murcia’s attempts to take ownership of the Portmán port infrastructure in order to expedite the project’s inauguration.
According to Diez de Revenga, the Murcia government would be compelled to re-apply for essential data on the project’s environmental effect due to the delay in transferring the facilities to regional authorities.
The estimated cost of the marina investment was not disclosed.
According to the state-run National Statistics Institute, Portmán has a population of roughly 1,000 people (INE).
