Work on a new marina in Crimea will begin soon

In collaboration with private investors, the Russian Crimean government is poised to commence construction of a flagship marina in Balaklava, Crimea. The 600-berth site’s designs have been approved, a contractor will be formally hired before the end of the year, and groundwork will begin shortly afterward.

The decision to expedite the project was made in August after a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev.

According to Tatyana Lobach, a member of the Russian Parliament (State Duma Deputy), the recent ratification of a strategy for the growth of yacht tourism in Russia until 2030 would be critical for the Balaklava project’s realization.

“I am pleased that such a document has been accepted,” Lobach said in an interview with CrimeaRia, a newswire operating in Crimea. “We have yet to pass a regulation law act governing yacht tourism. It establishes a legal foundation for the construction of a marina and the development of an extensive network of infrastructure. It will serve as a catalyst for economic expansion across the area.”

Lobach said that the State Duma still has a long way to go bring domestic boating law up to international standards – the marina in Balaklava is intended to serve as an experimental platform for enhancing the legal framework.

As part of the works, there are plans to reconstruct Balaklava’s major Tavricheskaya and Nazukin embankments.
