Investment Plans Submitted for Greek Port and Marina Upgrades

The Greek government has recently taken significant steps towards enhancing its marine tourism and yachting infrastructure to keep pace with increasing demand. The Ministry of Tourism disclosed that it had received 41 investment proposals by the January 31 deadline following a call for projects aimed at modernizing the nation’s ports and marinas.

To support these initiatives, the government has earmarked 139,090,800.00 euros in RRF funds to advance the selected investment plans. The total value of proposals from port and marina authorities amounts to 184,588,025.30 euros, surpassing the initial budget allocation. The Tourism Ministry is now in the process of evaluating these proposals to determine which ones will be integrated into the program.

Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni expressed satisfaction with the progress, emphasizing that these developments signify a crucial step towards improving Greece’s ports and marinas. This enhancement is envisioned to optimize marine tourism experiences while also bolstering the country’s global competitiveness.

Key priorities outlined by Kefalogianni include elevating the quality of marine tourism services to meet rising demand, enhancing global competitiveness, and safeguarding Greece’s marine environment and coastal regions through sustainable infrastructure projects.

The funding program aims to address various aspects such as upgrading infrastructure to meet evolving market standards, certifying ‘green’ marinas based on international benchmarks, digitalizing tourist port facilities and services, and ensuring accessibility for all visitors.

Kefalogianni previously mentioned plans to streamline licensing procedures for port and marina projects to stimulate investment activity, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth in the sector.
