MARINAS AND AVAILABLE BERTH MALLORCA

Marina berth Mallorca wanted?

Mallorca’s marinas and ports are well booked as always, the waiting lists for permanent moorings are long. Without personal contact it is difficult to get a marina berth in Mallorca.

Many of the marinas in Mallorca are being converted in 2020/21. The answer of the marinas in Mallorca is always the same: We have a waiting list. And it is long. Very long! Free marina berths are rare on the Balearic island.

Only three of the more than 40 marinas we visited in June 2020 vaguely offered the prospect of an annual berth. Even many daily berths were reserved for July and August – three months in advance. The customers then also book a mooring for at least one month. So if you really want to sail your own boat in and around Mallorca during the two main holiday months, it will be difficult to find a berth in a marina in Mallorca. Thereby, the island has a lot of marinas and ports for yachts.

More than 50 marinas line up from Andratx in the west over Palma along the south and east coast up to the extreme north to Port de Pollença. Only along the 40 nautical miles long rugged north-west coast there is only in the bay of Sóller a Marina where sailors find protection. This marina will also be rebuilt in 2020 and is extremely expensive.

A large part of Majorca’s marinas is operated by “Club Nauticos“ associations. So also Mallorca’s biggest and probably most prominent marina of the Real Club Nàutic Palma with its more than 1000 berths. Each Club Nàutic operates independently and makes its own price lists. They charge their own prices, have their own website and set their own rules regarding pre-booking and reservations.

Clubs Nàuticos have one thing in common: the majority of their berths are occupied by members. Therefore, foreigners hardly have a chance to get a permanent berth in a club marina.
Private marinas are the second largest group of Mallorca’s marina operators. These marinas in Mallorca are operated by groups of investors. However, they are almost always medium-sized marinas with 300 to 500 berths. Often a large part of them is also permanently assigned to permanent berths or charter companies.

Finally, there are seven Ports de les Illes Balears – Ports IB, which can be recognized by their blue and white flags. They are often located in the immediate vicinity of the Club Nàuticos and manage marina areas that are directly under the administration of the Balearic Islands. These are usually berths along the inner marinas and quay walls for smaller boats belonging to the local residents. If water depths and space conditions permit, they also offer a smaller number of berths for yachts up to a maximum of 15 metres.

All marinas on the Balearic Islands have good standards. In terms of protection against strong winds and winter storms, as well as buoys and lights, they are, with a few exceptions, at a very good level. Especially the private marina providers are very good in terms of security, with 24-hour surveillance of their facilities or round-the-clock availability. The popular holiday island manages to keep yacht crews happy. And this despite the very high prices that are charged for a berth.

Marina permanent moorings in Mallorca are rare and therefore sometimes horrendously expensive. Those who want to have one anyway, have to be patient.
