In a significant milestone for Ploče, the Ministry of Construction, Spatial Planning, and State Property has issued a location permit for the construction of a nationally significant nautical tourism port. This marks the crucial first step towards realizing a monumental project that promises to transform the coastal landscape and bring economic prosperity to the region.

The journey commenced in 2018 when the city obtained the authorization to pursue the location permit. Over the years, meticulous planning and collaboration unfolded, including the conceptual design in 2019, spatial plan amendments in 2020, maritime and environmental impact studies in 2021, and the creation of the conceptual project by the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb in 2023.

The next phase involves mapping the boundaries of the port area, a task undertaken by the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, with the resolution bestowed by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure. The eagerly awaited concession tender is scheduled for the summer of 2024, paving the way for the selection of the most suitable bidder or concessionaire.

Mayor Mišo Krstičević expressed the city’s satisfaction, acknowledging the years of hard work finally yielding results. He emphasized that the nautical port would bring a distinctive “Mediterranean” flair to Ploče, diversifying its image beyond the existing port. Anticipating a transformative impact on the city’s panorama, job creation, and the influx of quality visitors, Mayor Krstičević sees this project as a turning point for Ploče’s business environment, attracting additional investor interest in nautical tourism-related ventures.

The visionary project not only encompasses the construction and outfitting of a nautical tourism port with up to 400 berths and connecting roads but also includes the creation of two basins: “Pod cestom” and “Sidrište” (Under the Road and Anchorage). The development is not just limited to the marina; it extends to the construction of a new beach in Baćina, replacing the existing one within the scope of the new marina. Mayor Krstičević assured that the documentation for the beach is ready, and the new city beach will be completed even before the marina.

With a planned implementation timeframe spanning from 2024 to 2026, the Ploče Nautical Tourism Port is poised to redefine the city’s coastal allure, beckoning maritime enthusiasts and ushering in a new era of tourism for Ploče and the wider Neretva region. The project envisions a multi-faceted marina, catering to stationary boat owners, transiting charter fleets, and serving as a launchpad for charter enthusiasts. As the countdown to realization begins, Ploče stands on the brink of a transformative journey that will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on its maritime legacy.
