MYBA chefs competition 2024

Celebrating Culinary Excellence: Recap of the 2024 Superyacht Chefs’ Competition

The anticipation was high at this year’s MYBA Charter Show as superyacht chefs from around the world gathered to showcase their culinary prowess in the Italian Fusion Dinner Party challenge. Tasked with fusing Italian cuisine with flavors from another country of their choice, these talented chefs delivered an evening of extraordinary dishes that impressed both judges and guests alike.

The Theme and Inspiration

In honor of the MYBA Charter Show’s return to Italy, chefs were challenged to create an Italian fusion dinner party for six guests. Drawing inspiration from Nikkei cuisine, which blends Peruvian and Japanese flavors, chefs incorporated elements from a second country into each course, adding a unique twist to traditional Italian dishes.

Competition Basics and Logistics

Chefs had to prepare three courses—starter, main, and dessert—within a tight timeframe of 35 minutes. All cooking and preparation were to be done onboard, with assistance limited to plating. Each course was presented on six plates for the judges and one for photography, accompanied by menus that kept the fusion countries a mystery.

Judging Criteria

The dishes were evaluated based on originality, taste, presentation, execution, and overall impression. The judges had the challenging task of identifying the fusion elements in each dish while appreciating the creativity and skill of the chefs.
