Greece may not be going through the best episode in its history, but what is certain is that its tourist attractions are like no other. It is the cradle of culture and science, as well as of Western knowledge and some of the first great works of art.
Greece has all kinds of tourist attractions that are second to none. From beautiful beaches to places of rich history and culture, take a look at this list!
The Acropolis of Athens and the Parthenon
The Parthenon is, par excellence, the symbol of Athens; it is located right at the top of the acropolis, as well as dominating the city. This is the sacred temple of the goddess Athens, protector of the city that bears her name. With its Doric style, the Acropolis has inspired official architecture all over the world.
It was built exclusively of white marble at the request of Pericles and was begun and completed between 447 and 432 BC. Much of the sculptural decoration of the site was done by the famous Phidias. Unfortunately, many years ago a bomb fell on this temple, destroying a large part of it.
If you want to visit this marvellous tourist attraction you should know that it is always crowded with tourists, so you’d better take a walk here early in the morning or in the late afternoon.
Mykonos
The wonderful island of Mykonos is one of the most famous in all of Greece for many reasons, including its vibrant sunsets, its great shopping and its unique beaches, some of which are nudist beaches. The beaches here are the widest in Greece, making them the first choice when travelling to the old continent. If you want to spend an unforgettable holiday or honeymoon, I recommend this Greek attraction.
The theatre of Delphi
If you are a lover of the performing arts, art history and history in general, this is the place for you. In ancient times, Delphi was the region of greatest importance in terms of religion and ceremonies, even housing a sanctuary and the oracle of Apollo.
Today, more than 2,700 years old, it occupies a very important place in Greek culture and is one of the largest and most visited archaeological sites in the world. Imagine being in the place where once there were performances of more than 5,000 spectators! You’re sure to get goose bumps!
The beautiful beach of Navagio
Shipwreck Beach, better known as Navagio Beach, is considered one of the best beaches in the world. It is located in a very remote area of the Ionian Sea, on the island of Zakynthos. This beach is strategically and geographically located, as it is in the middle of granite rocks carved by nature itself, making it a paradise, as well as a great tourist attraction in Greece. The beach has the quality of being private and hidden, as well as having a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for enjoying the crystal clear waters, the soft white sand and the warm Mediterranean air.
Romantic Santorini
Finally, there is Santorini, a city with a very particular magic and appeal. It was built on a beautiful archipelago formed by the remains of volcanic formations in the southern part of the Aegean Sea. This is another major tourist attraction in Greece.
Santorini owes its popularity to many reasons, especially its surreal architecture, its tourist attractions and its ideal sunset views. Among its attractions are countless hotels, bars, nightclubs and restaurants. The evenings and sunsets are particularly romantic and masterful, ideal for visiting as a couple.
