Flattering title of the friendliest place on Earth in 2023

The hospitality of the hosts of the country we are traveling to is undoubtedly one of the most important factors that will be our final impression of that country. The welcome of the locals is especially important if you are traveling alone and it is certainly nice to feel welcome.

That’s why popular accommodation booking service Booking.com has researched more than 240 million user reviews to discover “the most hospitable places on Earth for 2023”. The site then compiled a list of destinations where you are most likely to receive the best hospitality.

At the top of the list was the adorable Italian town of Polignano a Mare. The city on Italy’s Adriatic coast is known for its spectacular cliff-top location and white pebble beaches, and it also has loads of exceptional restaurants, hotels and guesthouses.

The town’s origins date back to ancient times, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the 4th century BC. Throughout its history, Polignano a Mare has been influenced by various cultures, including the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Normans, and Aragonese, all of whom have left their mark on the town’s architecture and culture.

Today, Polignano a Mare is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world who come to enjoy its beautiful beaches, scenic coastal walks, and excellent seafood restaurants. One of the town’s most famous attractions is the Grotta Palazzese, a stunning natural cave that has been converted into a restaurant, offering diners a unique and unforgettable dining experience.

Grotta Palazzese is a famous seaside restaurant located in Polignano a Mare, Puglia, Italy. The restaurant is situated in a natural limestone cave, overlooking the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. It is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and unique dining experiences in the world.

The restaurant is open from May to October, and its menu features traditional Italian cuisine, including fresh seafood dishes, homemade pasta, and a selection of local wines. Guests can choose to dine inside the cave, where they can enjoy panoramic views of the sea through the cave’s opening, or on the terrace, which is perched on the edge of the cliff and offers stunning views of the coastline.

The cave has been used as a dining space since the 1700s, but it wasn’t until the mid-20th century that the space was transformed into a full-service restaurant. Today, Grotta Palazzese is an exclusive and highly sought-after destination, attracting visitors from all over the world who come to enjoy its unparalleled views, excellent food, and romantic ambiance. Reservations are highly recommended, as the restaurant can be fully booked months in advance.
