Hidden beneath the crystal-clear waters of Čikat Bay, nestled within the TOP DIVE Lošinj diving centre, lies a fascinating and unique attraction that beckons divers from all around the world – the underwater park of Mali Lošinj. Situated just 1 km from the heart of Mali Lošinj, this submerged wonderland offers a mesmerizing journey into the rich history of the island and its region.
The underwater park is a carefully curated showcase of history, featuring a total of 11 captivating exhibits, artfully placed between 5 and 15 meters deep in the water. These exhibits bear witness to the island’s intriguing past, with each item telling a compelling story. Among the treasures waiting to be discovered are replicas of cannons from the 16th century, ancient amphoras, anchors from the 4th and 5th centuries, Venetian cannons, and even machine guns from World War II. However, the true gem and the crown jewel of the park is the stunning replica of the ancient bronze athlete statue known as “Apoxyomenos,” dating back to the 2nd – 1st century B.C. This remarkable statue, which also serves as a symbol of Mali Lošinj, stands proudly in its natural size, offering a glimpse into the island’s ancient past.
One of the most appealing aspects of the underwater park is its accessibility. All licensed divers are welcome to explore the depths and immerse themselves in history. Even those without any prior diving experience need not miss out on this incredible experience. Thanks to the “Discovery Dive” program, less experienced divers can embark on an unforgettable journey into the underwater park under the guidance of skilled diving instructors from the Diver Lošinj diving centre. The relatively shallow waters housing the exhibits make it an ideal spot for novices and children above the age of 12 accompanied by an adult.
